Vans
Leuk weetje: The slogan 'Off The Wall' originates from skate jargon for tricks where skaters come out of empty pools.

Waar staat Vans bekend om?
Vans
Did you know that the very first Vans store opened in 1966 in Southern California? The founder, Paul Van Doren, wanted to make shoes and sell them directly to consumers. Without intermediaries. In the first Vans store, three styles were offered, only in the display window because the store was otherwise empty. It didn't seem to matter much, as the shoes were sold out in no time to 12 enthusiastic buyers. After everything was sold, Paul went straight back to the factory to have extra sneakers made. And this was just the beginning…
Vans Old Skool
Initially, Vans did not necessarily intend to become a typical skate brand. But in 1988, Vans opened an indoor skateboard park in Orange, California. It’s no surprise that from then on, Vans was always associated with the skate sport. After opening this first park, Vans also opened skate parks in New Jersey, Virginia, Texas, and Colorado. At the same time, Vans sponsored sporting events such as skate and snowboard competitions, motocross, and surfing. The collections from this time are often referred to as the Vans Old Skool collections. Vans Old Skool is not only one of the most popular collections ever made but also one of the most decisive, as who doesn't know these items? Think of the Vans classic like the Vans Old Skool Pro sneakers.
Vans Shoes
Although Vans was not necessarily known for quality in the past (because many models had to be made quickly), we can now say with certainty that a pair of Vans lasts for years. Buyers are not only skaters and surfers, but Vans are worn by people all over the world, regardless of background. Vans are often unisex. Both men and women can wear the different models. But what are the most sought-after Vans sneakers? Here’s a list for you; Vans Old Skool (characterized by the authentic stripe), Vans Authentic (simple, no frills), Vans SK8 (higher model, skate-like), and Vans Slip-On (slip-on).
Vans Slip-On
You recognize them immediately: the black/white or black/beige checkered slip-on models from Vans. These became a craze when Sean Penn wore them in the youth film “Fast Times at Ridgemont High.” To this day, they are an integral part of the Vans collections. Good job!
Vans SK8-Hi
Now for the high model from Vans: the SK8-Hi. Black, with a white line and sole, made of canvas and suede. The snug laces around the ankles provide extra support, which is ideal for skaters. The Vans Sk8 High was launched in 1978 under the name ‘Style #38’ - it was the first high skate shoe introduced by the brand. As mentioned, the shoe became popular in the board world due to its strong grip. But even after that, the simple, classic shoe remained incredibly popular… You can be sure you’ll see it around.
Vans Sale
Experts probably don't need to be told that Vans are very affordable. You can buy a pair of Vans for between 60 and 80 euros. And to make it even better: they are also regularly on sale! Do you want to be the first to know about a Vans sale? Then sign up for the Winkelstraat.nl newsletter. Because we give members first access when a Vans sale starts.
