Waar staat Puma bekend om?

History

Rudolf Dassler (March 26, 1898 - October 27, 1974) is the founder of the German sportswear brand Puma and an older brother of the founder of the Adidas brand, Adolf Dassler. In 1924, the brothers founded the Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik and four years later, during the Olympic Games in Amsterdam, they provided some German athletes with sports shoes. And also during the Olympic Games eight years later, in Berlin, several athletes wore sports shoes designed by the Dassler brothers.

When Rudolf was called up for service during World War II, Adi kept the factory running. However, the relationship between the two brothers deteriorated during that period to such an extent that Rudolf left the company. Rudolf started his own factory, Ruda. Soon he changed the name to Puma. Despite many speculations about the reason for the feud between the brothers, it has never become clear what the exact cause was. Recommended: the two-part film The Dassler Brothers: Adidas versus Puma. This film extensively covers the history of the Dassler brothers.

Although Rudolf had to start all over again, his success continued. Puma's first football boot, the "ATOM", convinced many athletes of its qualities. Several members of the West German national team wore this boot during the first post-war football match of the country, a 1-0 victory against Switzerland in 1950. Among the players: Herbert Burdenski, who scored the winning goal. From that moment on, the history of sport and the history of Puma became inseparable.
