History

Loewe is a Spanish luxury fashion house specializing in leather goods, clothing, perfume, and other accessories. Founded in 1846, Loewe is one of the oldest and largest luxury fashion houses.

Loewe was established in 1946 when a group of Spanish artisans in Madrid were joined by Enrique Loewe, a trader of Hessian descent. By the early 20th century, many notable people had a keen interest in Loewe, and Queen Ena of Spain became a regular customer. In 1905, Alfonso XIII granted them the royal appointment decree, making Loewe the purveyor to the royal house of Spain. The company quickly grew in popularity and was promoted by the likes of Ernest Hemingway, Ava Gardner, Rita Hayworth, Marlene Dietrich, and Sophia Loren.

In 1965, Loewe launched a ready-to-wear collection and was acquired by the LVMH Group in 1996.

Loewe Foundation

In 1988, Enrique Loewe y Lynch, the great-grandson of the company's founder, established the Loewe Foundation, a private cultural foundation that supports cultural events and exhibitions. The foundation received a gold medal for merit in the Fine Arts from the Spanish government in 2002.
